| The Numbers Explained |
Earlier this week I posted a table of the male/female ratio in nineteen different countries. I have reproduced that table at the bottom of this post for reference. I made no comments on the numbers, but left it to readers to try to draw their own conclusions.
Today, I have combined the countries represented in the first chart into three groups - Christian (using the term in the loosest possible way), Israel, and Muslim.
Source: CIA World Factbook.
Now can you see the difference? It is a well-known fact that women, under normal circumstances, for a variety of reasons, have a longer life-expectancy than men. We see the evidence of that in the almost even male/female ratio among the young and middle-aged, which drops to .74/1 among the 65+ age-group in the U.S.A., Canada, U.K., and Israel.
If you expect this to be especially true among peoples who are perpetually at war and glorify martyrdom, you think like I do; but we are both wrong. In the Muslim countries represented, the ratio among the 15-64 age-group is an astounding 1.36/1, which only tapers off to 1.11/1 when the men begin dying of old age.
Meanwhile, Israel, surrounded on all sides by Muslim nations, shares demographics with the "Christian" nations.
What conclusions can be drawn from these numbers? Well, I admit this is not an entirely scientific sample. I basically went down the CIA list and grabbed the top three "Christian" nations, hurriedly picked out all the Muslim nations I saw, trying no not to miss any but not trying too hard, and then threw Israel in for comparison.
Still, I think it is scientific enough to clearly indicate that Islam is brutally hard on women, a fact that should come as no surprise. (I have long wondered where the feminists are in the commentary on Iraq.) These numbers simply drive that fact home with eloquent bluntness.
