| Truth |
These are just a few quick observations on truth. Feel free to add to the list or expand on any of them.
1. No one is entitled to his own opinion.*
2. Everyone is obligated to seek, find, and believe the truth.
3. Truth is knowable.
4. Truth matters. Some truth matters more than other truth, but all truth is important. No error is benign.
5. Honest people may disagree, but no more than one of them can be right about any one proposition in a given context. When there is disagreement, someone, maybe everyone, is wrong.
6. True is true and false is false; right is right and wrong is wrong. Unless you are talking about clothing sizes, don’t give me any of that “this is what’s right for me” skubalon.
7. On babies and bathwater: I don’t need to give my respect to men of dubious character or qualification “because they make a valuable contribution to the conversation.” I can throw out their baby with their bathwater because that same baby can be found in cleaner water elsewhere.
8. You are all entitled to disagree with me. However, you must be willing to say I am wrong, not simply that we see these things differently.

I wish people would use the 2nd last point when considering men like NT Wright; and there are a bunch of them. I personally do not understand how people can recommend his work on say, the resurrection, when he completely destroys the doctrine of justification and annexes any meaning from imputation. I would not want people going from one work to another and unwittingly have horrific doubts cast on the gospel itself. I'm all for throwing them both out because as you said, there are other works (cleaner water) by orthodox individuals that will serve just fine.

Darrin, that point is the one that has been irritating me the most of late. No one seems able to criticize a heretic without first pointing out his "valuable insights" on one thing or another, as if no one had ever thought of it before.
Even So...

I am using that one, brother, probably today...

Amen. Especially the one about the baby and the bathwater. I've linked to you and appreciate your stand for Truth.

Opinions are like ears, everyone has a couple of them.
However, God's Word has the FINAL SAY on all topics !

You know what? I had so lost sight of the bathwater thing. It's a mildly irritating Englishness of mine that I feel the need to be terribly apologetic in the wussy sense. This often translates into trying to find the positive sides of something before I accurately and justifiably shred the bad things. I should stop that.

Well, that's all well and fine, but it's just YOUR opinion.
*grin*
I'm kidding! I've always wondered why people WILL insist on being "tolerant" of "opinions" that have no basis in fact. Insanity (severe impediment in recognizing reality) is a mental disorder, not a constitutional right.
