Ask Thirsty

Those of you who frequent this blog know that I am not a prolific blogger. That is not because I have nothing to say. I have an opinion, usually a very strong opinion, about almost everything. Theology, politics, personal relationships, sports, leisure, personal hygeine - you name it, I have an opinion. The problem I have is that most of those opinions are either not important, not interesting, or have already been better stated by someone else (see OnTheWeb and 2Corinthians10:4-5 in the sidebar).

I have never intended to post every day like some people I know whose energy and creativity seem to be limitless. I'm happy if, in addition to our weekend posts, I can post something worthwhile once or twice a week. Unfortunately, my imagination, while very active, does not always give me something worthwhile or coherant as often as that.

Consequently, I am opening the blog for your questions and topic suggestions, like this guy occasionally does. My answers will not be as brilliant as his always usually sometimes are, but I'll give it a shot. No question is too trivial. In fact, I have lots of trivial opinions. Want to know what I think? Ask me!

Leave your question/suggestion in the comments here, or click here to email us. I'll leave a link to this post somewhere on the front page, so it will be eternally accessible.

Are you doing penance for some repulsive black-hearted deed in your past? 'Cause I've always wondered why you live in ND.

If I was Catholic, I'd have no end of penance to do for past "repulsive black-hearted deed[s]." I could easily wipe the slate clean, however, by moving to California or Minnesota.

I've already done time in your Big Sky Purgatory, heard all the lame ND jokes.

Why I Live in North Dakota might be a good topic one day. Might not be very interesting, though. Which is why I live here.

What is your quest?
What is your favorite color?
What is the air speed velocity of an air-laden swallow?

My quest is to be as funny as Jonathan Moorhead.

Actually, those first two are acceptable questions. The third is just an attempt to stir up controversy, but I'll answer it anyway.

Does the killer rabbit kill only those who smell like carrots, or anyone wearing silly outfits for fighting against armless (and legless) knights?

I get the feeling I'm not being taken seriously.

In all seriousness, I think this is a great idea...I just don't know what to ask you. I'm not creative enough to come up with questions right now...unless you'd like to state your stance on end times things. Are you pre, mid, or post-trib rapture...and if not one of those, then what? And why.

Eschatology? Now you're really looking for trouble! I'll add it to the list.

Someone I know asked this on a forum the over day, with no real reply:

Hello all! I'm sure you've all been following the news and have read the story of the family that went on holiday to Greece, and the husband had an argument with the wife and jumped out of the window with his two children, where his son died.

Now, I believe that when God ordained marriage, he intended it to be a holy lifelong union, and that "what God has joined together let no man put asunder," except possibly when a husband or wife has been unfaithful. But if it was me, and my (non-existent) husband killed my (non-existent) son while trying to kill himself, I don't think I could live with that, because everytime I saw him I would think "you killed my son, he would be alive if it weren't for you". I think in a way it would be worse for me than unfaithfulness, for which the Bible permits divorce, because I think after a while I could put the pain and hurt aside and rebuild the marriage, whereas I couldn't just forget that I used to have a son.

So what do other people think? Do you think God would permit divorce in this case, even though the Bible clearly doesn't list this as an exception? Would God see it as adultery if someone remarried after a divorce in these circumstances?

Why did God make/allow dreams? Why do we dream? Not what -is- a dream, but rather why dream at all.

My six year old asked me this last night.

David, I no longer am impressed with your answer to my above question because, as I just remembered, you answered wrongly. You should have asked: “Why, what do you mean? An African swallow or a European swallow?” I suppose we need to go back and watch the movie again.

Sorry Jonathan, I guess I made an assumption. My answer assumed Hirundo rustica Linnaeus, the North American Barn Swallow. I hope that helps.

If God is everywhere and self-sufficient--why does He need angels for? And if He had angels what did He need Man for?
