This Is Not a Cat Blog

Bloggers who have nothing to say write about their cats. At least that is what I have observed. Today I am writing about my cat. Draw your conclusions as you will.

When we lived in the country, we always had cats. We had to. It was either cats or mice, and we chose cats. Those cats were not pets, they were livestock—not like cattle, because we didn’t eat them, but like horses, because they had a job to do. When we moved to town, we didn’t bring any cats with us.

Then, last week, a kitten walked into the house and decided to stay. This one, I guess, is a pet. Her name is Dagmar. She hasn’t done a lick of work since she arrived, and I doubt she ever will. She sleeps a lot. When she wakes up, two little girls harass her until she makes a break for my office, where she climbs up my leg and promptly falls asleep on my lap. Sometimes she climbs across my keyboard, typing in tongues. I will be reading Charismatic Chaos to her soon. At least she meows in English.

So, now I have blogged about my cat. Can I sink much lower? Well, yes, I suppose I could have posted pictures, but then I would never be able to look in the mirror again, regardless of how devastatingly handsome I am. Here is a cat picture for anyone who cares to see one. It’s not our cat—I wish it was.

I wonder if this is what they call jumping the shark.

I don't ever have to worry about jumping the shark, because my nadir and my zenith correspond. You should try it.

Are you implying that I am mercurial? unstable? unbalanced? inconsistent? What?

I wasn't implying any of those, at least not until you flipped out...

So, now I'm over-sensitive...

Seriously, though, I'm just thrilled to have a reader literate enough to use the word "nadir."

Jazzycat will be upset about this one. I used to have cats when I was a wee lad, but quickly upgraded to dogs. I am allergic to cats now and cannot bear their kind anymore. I will admit the cat pic is priceless.

upgraded to dogs

Well put.

Hmmmm, I've been reading (and enjoying) your blog off and on for a few weeks and find this post to be one of few I feel "qualified" to comment on!!! :-)

I've found that being a cat lover (or cat "tolerate-er") is very favorable evidence of progressive sanctification. How else can one abide by feeding and sheltering an animal that does little more than eat, sleep, sleep, sleep, walk on the keyboard, eat, sleep, sleep,... :-)

"Can I sink much lower?"

Barely.

However, if you really wish to plummet to the bottom David, get a french-cut poodle and blog about it (with many pictures).

I am a devout Christian and I LOVE cats! I love the fact that they have retained their dignity in the face of myriad abuse and neglect from an insensitive world. I have cats, and I foster kittens for local shelters, and I try to exercise righteousness by carefully stewarding my animals (horses, cats) and caring for their needs...after all, God made each and every critter, is well-pleased with them and will require from us an account of how we have treated them!
