| Why I despise . . . |
. . . 90% of all CCM.
Garbage lyrics aside, it's because they can't, or won't, sing. This guy can, and he's not even getting paid.
Update: But he is now.

That was insane...in a very remarkable kind of way.

CCM is the pits; I write to my local "Christian" radio station monthly, and share my disappointment to no end. It's very sad, and frustrating.
A lot of black eyes out there to the Body of Christ.
David
Do you ever get any answers, Don?
Garry Weaver
That was awesome!
David
Don, I accidentally deleted your last comment with some spam. Sorry.

No problema.
To answer your question again: No, they never reply.
The culture of the present CCM has become a "Status Quo", and it needs to be broken. It's become a boring theology, of God loves everybody, and Jesus died for people, because He couldn't live without us.
Sad.

Pardon me, but isn't is simply a glittering generalization to lump all CCM groups and CCM individuals into a "God-loves-everybody" category?
There are several very good CCM groups and artists who proclaim the radical and total depravity of man, and the complete control of God.
...
What about the lethargic, apathetic state of old-line "hymners" who have forgotten what it means to engage a fallen world?
We all have our giants to face. Maybe it would help Christendom if we could face them without shoving our brothers in front of us first.

BTW: did LOVE the opera.
Awesome singer, great music!
David
I didn't say all CCM, just 90% of it. I thought I was being generous.
What about the lethargic, apathetic state of old-line "hymners" who have forgotten what it means to engage a fallen world?
What about them? I was referring to the quality of the music, not the character of the musicians.
Certainly, there is nothing intrinsically virtuous about age. There are a lot of banal, theologically ignorant, and musically trite 19th and 20th Century Gospel Songs that pass for Hymns in many hymnbooks that are "old favorites." So I am not comparing new and old here.
I'm not even comparing content (I don't even know what "Nessun Dorma" means). I'm comparing artistic quality. I'm also not implying that operatic style is mandatory or always best. But whining, groaning, growling, yelling, screaming, etc. is not singing!
David
Update: I now know what Nessun Dorma means.

Good point. Should have paid attention to what you said in more detail...
Oh well...I'm always wrong.

Wow! Does anyone know the results of that guy's performances? We are missionaries overseas and I don't know if this is recent or what, but that guy has some voice!
I agree with everything you said about the rubbish from the CCM.
David
Yes--he won the final competition, has since sung in Rockefeller Center and will sing (or perhaps has by now) before the Queen, and has a recording contract. He should have a CD out soon.
