Emerged

Apparently, some emerg*** folks are thinking of dumping the term “emerging.” I have three observations:

  1. Wow, that didn’t take long.
  2. I approve of dropping the term. It’s no longer accurate. May I suggest emerged?
  3. You can change your clothes as often as you like, but until you take bath, you’ll still stink.

On a related note, earlier this week a rather low-wattage commenter on another blog summed up his remarks with this statement: “Let's take theology out of Christianity.” I’m afraid the Bible is going to need some serious editing.

A lot of the emergent crowd just do not like the whole of the Holy Writ. Bible doctrine to them is a wall that's sending souls away from Jesus, who loves them.

I listen to sermon from the Erwin McManus kind of view, and it was simply over-balanced on the side of we need to love sinners and get out of the church and make friends with the world.

I challenged this pastor, with a more balanced approach to being salt and light in the world, and to not love the world, and bad company can corrupt, so we need to be careful.

he simply dismissed it, and said the Bible is complicated, and I have decided to serve the Lord the way I am.

Oh well. sad, that the Bible, the truth, which is God's Word is only good, when it says what i agree with.

there are good ECM types, and there are heretics, just like in every area of denominationalism: If that's a word.

Hey, I have the old arrow back. the quill was nice, because it wasn't as heavy. But seriously, quill or arrow, it matters not, as long as I can share my heart here at times.
Thanks for being a good servant of the Lord.
Keep on sharing truth, it builds us up, up, up, and doesn't tear us, down, down, down.

I’m all for getting out of the church [building] and making friends with [sinners in] the world. I’m just not in favor of becoming worldly in order to be attractive, or trading the Gospel for a message that’s easier to swallow.

I don’t know why you’re not seeing the quill. I didn’t remove it, and it’s still on my screen.

"Don't you know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God."

"Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him."

"Do not be deceived: "Evil company corrupts good habits." 1 Cor. 15:33

These are the Scriptures I shared with the pastor who preached a sermon that we are to make friends with the world. And I sent him these to show that there's a fine line the Christian needs to walk.
He basically disregarded these verses, for they stifled his thinking, instead of working through these verses, and preaching with them included in his sermon.

I agree with your statement. And it's that simple I guess, but it's not something we should take lightly, for making friends with the world can be deadly.
Satan needs to be resisted, for he is slick.

Hey, the quill is working again. I like it.
