Before retiring last night, I typed out my thoughts on the election. I had pretty much decided not to post them, but for better or worse, here they are.
Well, it’s over. Now that Obama has been President, here is what we have to look forward to.Legal, unlimited abortion will now be the law of the land. Overturning Roe v. Wade is now meaningless. Obama has vowed to sign the Freedom of Choice Act. Justin Taylor explained what this means in a post I linked to last week:
So to summarize this act--which again, Barack Obama has promised to sign as his first order of business in the White House--abortion on demand will become codified, all regulations and restrictions will be stripped away, Christian hospitals and physicians will not have a choice regarding the performance of abortion (since their accrediting agencies are approved by the federal government), teenagers will not have to tell their parents about an abortion, and prolife taxpayers will be forced to pay for abortions at any stage of the pregnancy for any reason. Many of us have long understood that the only way to end abortion is not to change the law (though we certainly favor that), but by changing hearts. Well, folks, now that’s all we’ve got. The legal battle is over, and we have lost.
We all know that Obama is a Marxist, pure and simple. There’s no denying it. He also knows that the Constitution denies the government the power to “redistribute wealth.” No problem, he says. We’ll just toss the Constitution. We need to “break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the founding fathers in the Constitution.” This is the man who is now empowered to appoint Justices to the Supreme Court of the United States — the appointed guardians of the Constitution. He who has expressed his desire to deconstruct the constitution will take an oath to defend the Constitution, and immediately launch an attack against it.
The implications of this philosophy extend much further than economic freedom. This means that every liberty is up for grabs. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, everything. The day is swiftly approaching when we will have to choose to obey God rather than men, and pay the price for it.
We have elected a murderer and a thief, a man who despises the very principles on which this Republic was built. Indeed, he hates God. No, not the god in whom he professes faith. That god is alright with him. But that is not the God of the Bible.
What does that mean? What it means should cause us to fall on our faces and cry out to God for mercy; for it means that we are a nation of murderers and thieves.
God, have mercy!
In spite of the gloomy tone, I do know that God is still sovereign, that Jesus is Lord, and that I can still count on his promises. If the first century church could live under Caesar, I can live with an Obama Presidency. I can live even if the Republic crumbles entirely. Because my hope is not of this world.
1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.No matter who is President.
2 My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.
3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.
6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.
8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.—Psalm 121

Sobering, isn't it?
I believe that soon pastors in the U.S. will be forbidden to preach the truths found in Romans 1(hate crimes will be the charge).
I really have a bit of a bone to pick with most reformed Pastors. Unlike what happens in the black church, politics in general are never addressed from the pulpit( as least not from my pulpit and many others including Grace Church a la MacArthur).
I think I understand that in a sense, but this election was not like ANY other election in our history. The clear choice between good and evil was never so black and white(no pun intended).
I never heard from my pulpit what could be at steak for us!
We are going to lose our liberties to even preach the gospel under this man. God never intended for His Church to bury our heads like an Ostrich.
Our God rules in the affairs of men and that is our only comfort.
As you have stated-- if Obama puts in 2 Supreme Court Justices--Christians will find themselves in REAL trouble, such as we have not known in our history as a nation---I sure wish I had heard that from our Pulpit.

You never know. Perhaps the Lord will be gracious still,... Oh how we would rejoice if Obama stopped being one of those anything goes "Christians" like we see in many churches today, and instead, -suddenly- became one of those Christians like we see in the bible . There is always hope.
I was saved out of sin in my darkest hour, I am sure that God can do the same with nations.

Just a quick afterthought...
As a Canadian living in a liberal cesspool, I had been longing to move south where I expected to find large bastions of conservatively minded Christians pulling to upset the tide of wickedness that has come upon your nation.
I can say without reserve, that I don't think I care to move south anymore - and I am even glad that I haven't. Notwithstanding, the exercise has reminded me of how a babe is weaned from its mother; we are, after all, strangers and pilgrims here, and perhaps this historic victory will serve to remind us all of this.

A very lively discussion is going on over at Pulpit!

Obama, even if he had been as white as a sheet, never could have been elected even a decade ago. Some sort of madness has blinded the mind of our nation. But our grief and disillusionment can bring new hope...or rather, a new focus on our eternal hope! And hope is a vital part of our witness (1 Pet. 3:15).
Our hope is in the Lord, not in any politician! Praise God His reign is eternal!

I think we Christians have to reconsider how we do politics. For too long we have stopped at the voting booth. The great victories last night came with the propositions like Prop * in California. Obama went to Saddleback and promised to work for the reduction of abortions, and while the legal elimination of abortions are off the table, I think we should hold Obama to what he said and work to reduce abortions. When we stop just hoping that our votes make a difference, and taking action to make our faith real in our lives can we hope to make political difference in the world. Jesus never looked to change Ceasar for a Christian Ceasar, but look to change hearts by proclaiming.

Thanks, everyone. Good points, I agree with you all. Can’t always say that, so I’ll say it when I can. The day is not over yet, though.
