Hit-and-Run Post

In lieu of a real blog post today, I’m going to just throw out a provocative statement and leave. It’ll be kind of like that 22 Words blog, if you don’t count this introduction. I might write more on this some other time, or I might not. So here you go; do with it as you wish.

God is not going to judge America for her rampant immorality (e.g., abortion, homosexuality, etc.).

Almost exactly right, Don.

God WILL judge us(the "they") for our 'deeds'

Wayne,
You’re referring, I assume, to Matthew 16:27, Romans 2:6, etc. But I’m not thinking of an eschatological judgment, I’m thinking of judgment here and now (or yet to come, but in this world), which is what is meant when people say that God will judge America for immorality.
The passage Don quoted (Romans 1:21–24) is the key. It does not speak of eternal judgment, but of temporal judgment, and its cause is much deeper than “deeds.”

Ok, here's my guess. Your point may be two-fold:
1. As your first commenter pointed out, the judgment is not merely in the future, but is already underway.

2. The judgment is not primarily for certain sins, but rather for turning away from God, which is the root of all those sins. The sins are used against us as evidence of our hearts' true condition, which is why they are mentioned in our judgment. Our sins reveal our hearts' rejection of God, and it is that rejection which condemns us.

Am I close?

So close! I suppose I’ll have to give my answer pretty soon. . . .
