Nipping Idealism in the Bud

Explaining the process that gave us President Obama (and every other President, as well) to my children (the youngest being eight years old):

imgimgFirst we have the primary elections. In the primaries, there are two groups: one bad (with rare exceptions), and the other pure evil. One segment of America chooses from the bad the candidate they believe is the least bad. Another segment chooses their favorite evil candidate. Then there is the general election, in which the bad candidate runs against the evil candidate. The winner becomes President for the next four years.

Sounds very similar to Canada, except we choose from three evil parties as opposed to individuals. And of course, if we don't like the evil government that gets elected, perhaps the other two evil parties can band together and toss the other guy out before the four years is up.

I should make it clear that it’s not our system I hate. I love the system, as regulated by the Constitution. It’s the people — candidates and voters alike, who care little for the Constitution — that I can’t stand.
