Lord’s Day 6, 2019

I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.”

Gird Your sword on Your thigh, O Mighty One,
In Your splendor and Your majesty!
And in Your majesty ride on victoriously,
For the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness;
Let Your right hand teach You awesome things.

—Psalm 45:3–4

XLI. The Triumph of Christ in the Cause of Truth, Meekness, and Righteousness. Psalm xlv. 3, 4.

Loud to the Prince of Heav’n
Your chearful Voices raise!
To him your Vows be giv’n,
And fill his Courts with Praise.
With conscious Worth
All-clad in Arms,
All-bright in Charms,
He sallies forth.

Gird on thy conqu’ring Sword,
Ascend thy shining Car,
And march, Almighty Lord,
To wage thy holy War.
Before his Wheels
In glad Surprize,
Ye Valleys, rise,
And sink, ye Hills.

Fair Truth, and smiling Love,
And injur’d Righteousness
In thy Retinue move,
And seek from thee Redress:
Thou in their Cause
Shalt prosp’rous ride,
And far and wide
Dispense thy Laws.

Before thine awful Face
Millions of Foes shall fall,
he Captives of thy Grace,
That Grace, which conquers all.
The World shall know,
Great King of Kings,
What wond’rous Things
Thine Arm can do.

Here to my willing Soul
Bend thy triumphant Way;
Here ev’ry Foe controul,
And all thy Pow’r display.
My Heart, thy Throne,
Blest Jesus, see
Bows low to thee,
To thee alone.

—Philip Doddridge, Hymns Founded on Various Texts in the Holy Scriptures (Salop, 1755).

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Please don’t miss worshiping with your local congregation
if you can possibly help it.
But if you’re in need of a good sermon, try these.
