Lord’s Day 01, 2020

I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.”

For we do not preach ourselves but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond-servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. —2 Corinthians 4:5–6

Hymn 47. (L. M.)
Glory and grace in the person of Christ.

Now to the Lord a noble song!
Awake, my soul; awake, my tongue;
Hosannah to th’ Eternal Name,
And all his boundless love proclaim.

See where it shines in Jesus’ face,
The brightest image of his grace;
God, in the person of his Son,
Has all his mightiest works outdone.

The spacious earth and spreading flood
Proclaim the wise and powerful God;
And thy rich glories from afar
Sparkle in ev’ry rolling star.

But in his looks a glory stands,
The noblest labour of thine hands;
The pleasing lustre of his eyes
Outshines the wonders of the skies.

Grace! ’tis a sweet, a charming theme;
My thoughts rejoice at Jesus’ name:
Ye angels, dwell upon the sound!
Ye heav’ns, reflect it to the ground!

O may I live to reach the place
Where he unveils his lovely face!
Where all his beauties you behold,
And sing his name to harps of gold!

The Psalms & Hymns of Isaac Watts. Hymns and Spiritual Songs. Book II: Composed on Divine Subjects (Soli Deo Gloria, 1997).

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Please don’t miss worshiping with your local congregation
if you can possibly help it.
But if you’re in need of a good sermon,
try these.
